Member institutions must seek approval from the Commission before implementing certain types of modifications through a substantive change request, in accordance with federal regulations, the Commission's Substantive Change Policy, and the Commission's Substantive Change Procedures.
Institutions are responsible for following the Commission's Substantive Change Policy and obtaining clearance before implementation. Making substantive changes without prior approval from the Commission jeopardizes the institution's accreditation status and may render it ineligible for Title IV funding.
Substantive change requests are considered by the Commission in six annual rounds, with submission dates beginning on January 1 and ending on November 1.
